Stanford Alumni Community
Stanford places an emphasis on connecting alumni, and this is not limited to online forums. The alumni association utilizes a variety of initiatives and events to bring alumni together. Currently, the school’s key collaborative initiative is Stanford+Connects, a 16-city digital global tour featuring Stanford-style micro lectures and seminars that seek to connect alumni of all ages.
The school’s deep catalogue of alumni events is clearly organized according to type. These include reunions, casual events, local alumni gatherings, travel/study programs and on-campus alumni events, all described with adequate detail.
Stanford offers a variety of alumni career resources for job seekers and employers alike. CareerConnect is the school’s headline program for alumni, providing access to exclusive job boards, internship opportunities, networking events, career coaches and custom tools (informational guides, videos, etc.) for career changers and entrepreneurs. The site also offers access to a local directory of alumni centers and the ability to plan alumni networking events.

Stanford Magazine is a bi-monthly publication that contains the latest university news and events; tech, medical and other research discoveries; and custom articles by students and alumni. The magazine is the centerpiece of the school’s alumni communication efforts and is complemented by the new Stanford Out Loud podcast series. Stanford successfully highlights alumni newsletter subscriptions and social media pages throughout the site.
The university places an emphasis on alumni volunteering programs and initiatives. Volunteer stories and profiles are promoted front and center on the homepage and a wide variety of opportunities are featured on the site. Volunteer opportunities are broken down into six categories—communities, classmates, students, arts/history, hospitals and fundraising—and alumni are able to search and sign up directly through the site.
